First of all if you ever want to shorter a web link that you’re going to use on twitter you have to use www.bit.ly . Bit.ly is an excellent free tool to shorten your url. For example: you have this address: http://twitterskills.com/twitter-marketing/7-steps-to-a-ton-of-traffic/ you can use the url shorter Bit.ly to make this address smaller in size so your whole tweet is not just a web address. You would go to bit.ly and submit this url and they will give you a shorter url, for example something like this: http://bit.ly/911A0 . The whole purpose of this tool is to shorter your url so it doesn’t take up your whole tweet you tweet!

1. go to bit.ly submit this url http://twitterskills.com/twitter-marketing/7-steps-to-a-ton-of-traffic/

2. Bit.ly will come back with shorten version of this site such as http://bit.ly/911A0

3. Use the short url to tweet the website!

So now that you know how to use bit.ly to shorten your url we can go to the pro league of using bit.ly. Many people don’t know that you can track the statistics or how many people have clicked on your shortened link of bit.ly/website-that-you-shorted. Yes you can run statistics on your free short url, why you would want to run statistics on websites you tweet is a whole new subject that I promise to cover soon because its very important for you do so.

Here is 1 step to track your Tweet link:

1. After you created your short url on bit.ly just add /info/ right after bit.ly

here is an example:

bit.ly/info/911A0

That’s it guys, nice an easy twitter skill for your business. Soon I will cover the topic of using statistics and why your business absolutely needs it.

Since Twitter was launched more then 10 BILLION have been sent on Twitter.

The milestone was announced by GigaTweet, a site which records a real-time history of all tweeting activity. However, they weren’t able to reveal the actual message because it was sent by someone using a protected profile. Perhaps it was interesting and insightful? We’ll never know.

Twitter usage continues to grow at an exponential rate. It took more than 2 years to reach 1 billion tweets, 15 months to reach 10 billion, and the 20th billion is expected some time in July 2010. An estimated 600 tweets are sent per second resulting in 50 million per day.

It’s a worrying statistic. By 2020, Twitter will account for 99.4% of all Internet traffic and every man, woman and child on the planet will be sending 350 tweets every day. Should we be concerned?

Twitter is quickly becoming the best friend of every business owner. Businesses just are discovering now that Twitter is one of the best if not THE BEST way to promote your business for free. Start now with my Sharpen your Twitter Skills Guide.

First of all, you have to go ahead and create your Twitter account, don’t hesitate go do it now!

Now that you have created your account let’s get to the fun part! Let’s start Marketing your business, I am going to break it down to 5 easy steps, each step getting more advanced.

5 steps to ton of followers on Twitter for your business:

1. Start simple, first ten tweets should be about you introducing yourself and your business. Examples are: Tweet about how you open your business, tweet about what clients love about your business (don’t say my clients love my pizza, instead tweet one of my clients ordered 25pizzas at 6PM the busiest time of our restaurant and wanted them done in an hour, we actually did it and I didn’t think it was possible! tweet about someone famous(even just a famous local guy) . I hope you get the point and that is don’t tweet to directly promote your business because everyone is doing that and is boring! Tweet interesting things and promote it indirectly through writing a little story of what happened at your business today that could be beneficiary to you.

2. Another great way to get new followers and keep your followers is by writing articles. Write articles of the field (make sure you include a link to your website and your twitter account in your articles!)you are in then go ahead and Submit your article to a Directory, let your Twitter followers know you wrote an article and it has been submitted to a Directory and it should be out soon. Include the title in your tweet, and let them know when you think the article will be out by. This continues to build anticipation.

3.Now go and Set up your account at EzineArticles, create new articles and publish them as “auto-tweeted” ”to be and announced on Twitter”, include the title and the link. Tweets will be done for you automatically from EzineArticles, this will generate interest at Twitter.com and also all over the web.

4. Now that your Twitter account is established its time to get automated. We are going to use 2 FREE tools for this:
- Tweet Later : Schedule tweets and keep your Twitter and StatusNet streams ticking over with new tweets even when you’re not in front of your computer. Publish tweets when you know your international followers are online and you’re asleep.
- Follow those who follow you : Automatically follow people who follow you and save a ton of time while your Friends list builds itself.

find these tools in the tool page.

5. Collect the money that your twitter followers are brining in to your business.

These are 5 steps that will really make your Twitter account grow fast with little effort.

Here is 7steps everyone should implement to get a ton of traffic from Twitter:

7 Steps to a Ton of Traffic!

Step 1 – Tweet that you are working on a new piece of content. Include the working title and when you expect to have it done by. This builds the anticipation in your followers and puts a bit a pressure on you to get in done.

Step 2 – When you submit your article to a Directory, let your Twitter followers know your new content has been submitted. Include the title, and let them know when you think the article will be out by. This continues to build anticipation.

Step 3 – When you set up your account at EzineArticles correctly, your newly published articles are “auto-tweeted” to and announced on Twitter, including the title and the link. This is done automatically for you. If your article is coming out on another Directory, watch for it’s publication and then tweet that the article is out. Include the title and the link.

Step 4 – Along about this time a really cool and powerful thing begins to happen. Your followers on Twitter begin to Re-Tweet (RT) your article, and now you are reaching all of their followers as well. Thank those who RT your article and Re-Tweet their announcement too.

Step 5 – Follow up the automated announcement of your articles with announcements of your own. Just because your article was automatically announced does not mean every one saw it. Twitter is much too fluid for that. So follow up with announcements of your own. Ask “Have you seen this yet?” and include the article title and link.

These first 5 steps drive traffic to the Article Directories that host your article. When you have written your article well and crafted your Resource Box well. this will quickly turn into traffic to your websites and blogs.

The next 2 steps involve repurposing your article on your own sites and driving Twitter traffic their as well.

Step 6 – Repurpose your article onto your website and then invite your Twitter traffic to check out the article there. Now you are driving Twitter traffic to your own website.

Step 7 – Repurpose your article onto your blog and then invite your Twitter traffic to your blog to check out your article there. Now you are driving Twitter traffic to your blog.

What is the value of Facebook over Twitter? Is there a difference? When do you use one or the other or both? The ultimate decision about which social network to use lies with your company culture, goals and target customer. Nonetheless, it’s important to recognize that you cannot choose “none of the above” if you want to survive the new digital economy. Therefore, the question is which do we choose and how do we begin?

This article will help you begin to distinguish between the value of Facebook for business and the value of Twitter for business.

It helps to understand the evolution of these two platforms to get an idea of what works best for each. Facebook began as a social networking tool for college students. Launched in 2004 in response to MySpace (which linked young people together throughout their high school years), Facebook targeted the student entering a college campus. In the early days, it was a highly social network, similar to MySpace.

Twitter, on the other hand, began as a way for people to communicate fast and in short bites. The founders had no idea that the platform would take off the way it did. Begun as a way to simply say to fellow workers, friends and colleagues what was on your mind at any given moment, Twitter soon became a powerful communication tool.

Knowing how the two platforms began helps you understand the strengths of each and how you might best capitalize on those strengths.

Both Facebook and Twitter effectively target the population of 35 and younger. Facebook, however, currently boosts a significant rise in the number of boomers using the platform. As far as consumer use goes, however, for business to consumer (B2C) purchases, the demographics are similar. Both attract mid-to-older players, with higher education and income.

Value of Facebook to Business:

•	Primarily a social site. On Facebook, you can share as much or as little personal information as you’d like. You can post photos of yourself and your family or of your company and employees. Facebook gives you an opportunity to create a personal as well as professional profile of who you are. People learn more about you as a person. In sales we talk about the know, like, and trust factor before a sale is made. Businesses that focus on other businesses (B2B) as clients understand this factor. Facebook gives you a great opportunity to let down some barriers and help your business customer learn more about you.
•	Versatility. Facebook allows you to set up a personal profile, a professional profile, a business page or a fan page. You have all kinds of choices for putting yourself and your business in front of your customers. People like to feel part of a business. You can enable that by setting up a fan page for your business or for a unique product that you offer.
•	Facebook ads. For business, Facebook gives you the opportunity to purchase a pay-for-click ad to target a unique niche.

Value of Twitter

•	Speed and real time. Twitter’s biggest strength is its speed. When you Tweet something, it goes out to masses of people immediately and in the moment. That is why it has become the world’s roving reporter. When things happen around the world, Tweets start pouring in. To get a message out quickly to lots of people, Twitter reigns king.
•	Information and Research. On Twitter, you get fast information and links to blogs all the time. If you are curious about what is happening in your industry, Twitter will keep you up-to-date quickly. If you’re curious about what people are saying about your industry or your business, Twitter will tell you.
•	Versatility of response. Both Facebook and Twitter give you a versatility of response. You can respond to the entire population in Twitterville when you post a Tweet. On Facebook, your status updates go to all your friends. People can see what you are up to or what is going on in your life all at once. Both Twitter and Facebook give you the option to send a private message that goes directly to that person. On Twitter, however, messages are more public than they are on Facebook. Wall posts on Facebook go to all your friends and all the friends whose wall you posted on.

There are many more value differences between Twitter, Facebook and the other social networks. Ultimately, you must look at each platform and decide how you can create a social media strategy for your business.

You can find any subject to read about on Twitter and can share anything you want to. It is another way for over crazed fans to know exactly what their favorite celebrities are doing on their down time and for friends to keep in touch and share their most exciting and gloomy news to their followers. It gives us all a way to keep track of public news and affairs and learn different sides to every point. We live in a world where it is perfectly acceptable to post your everyday activities for the public to see.

But it is so much more than just that. It is an excellent way for businesses, large and small, to promote themselves to millions for free! It is an excellent marketing tactic that actually does work! Small businesses are constantly looking to get their name out there and expand. The number of businesses on Twitter makes me think that it must be a successful strategy. Check out all your favorite businesses tweets and know all their latest news and promotions. Also follow me at www.twitter.com/skills4tweeting

The ultimate goal when using Twitter is to network, and to do that, you have to begin by finding people to follow. It’s a good idea to build a list of followers that are within your industry’s target audience, it is beneficial to add Twitter users with outside interests to your list as well who might add some variety to your network.

Twitter isn’t just a place to update what time you brushed your teeth or what you thought of today’s cloudy weather. It is much more powerful than that, especially when you’re following a network of people in your industry. Twitter allows you to connect with your peers and get new ideas, start joint ventures, and other deals that may not have been able to materialize in other typical business activities.

Aside from the amazing business opportunites that often arise, Twitter also allows you to simply “vibe” with your peers and those in the same industry that understand everything you’re passionate about as well as the trouble you may be having. What would once be limited to a very small network of people “at the office”, can now virtually be thousands of people who connect with you on several levels. The support that you can get out of that connection is priceless.

Sounds, good, right? But how do you go about finding these people to connect with?

Well, there is more than one way to find followers on Twitter. Here are a few:

Choose from “Everyone”
When you’re on your main home page, you can click the link on the right column that reads "Everyone". This will literally show you tweets from everyone on Twitter. Grab yourself a cup of joe and scroll through until you see something that catches your attention. Click their name to see more of their tweets, and if you like them, follow!

Find People!
There’s actually a button at the top of the twitter home page that allows you to search by people’s name. This is great for whipping through a list of people you already know to see if their on twitter, either by their real name, or by a username you know they typically use.

Other Networks
If you have email contact lists on any of the major accounts online (Gmail, MSN, etc.) then you can choose “Find On Other Networks” on your twitter home page as well, and it will allow you to import any contacts you may have that are in the Twitter system.

Suggested Users
Twitter has a “suggested users” link as well, but all too often it’ll just show you celebrity names and other people that won’t actually do much for your business. However, if you’re a huge fan of Brad and Angelina, then you might still want to check out this feature.

There are still a few other obvious ways such as using the Search function that will show you results based on name ot topic that you enter.

You can find someone with a list of the same type of people you’re looking to follow. On their home page, you’ll see a link on the right that reads “following”. Click that and you’ll see their whole list. Start browsing!

Of course, you will also be following people who have chosen to follow you. It’s a good idea to take a look at their latest 10-20 tweets before you actually click the follow button though, because you do want to have at least something in common. Some people choose to simply make it a rule to follow whoever follows them. It’s up to you. Either way, start building your followers!
